It started around 1992 during ‘Annamalai’, intensified in 1995 during ‘Baasha’, reached its peak in 1996 ahead of Assembly elections and is still continuing even after more than two decades.

No prizes for guessing that we are talking about the buzz surrounding the political journey of Superstar Rajinikanth. It is all over once again, following the actor’s speech at his fans meeting on Monday.

So, what he said? “God decides what we have to do in life. Right now, he wants me to be an actor and I’m fulfilling my responsibility. If God willing, I will enter politics tomorrow. If I enter, I will be very truthful and will not entertain people who are in this to make money. I won’t work with such people.”

These words triggered a huge buzz in political and film circles. While DMK working president M K Stalin and VCK chief Thirumavalavan have welcomed his political entry, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss said the actor has been saying so for the last 20 years and will do so for the next 50 years.

Going a step ahead, the Bharatiya Janata Party has rolled out a red carpet, with its senior leaders Pon Radhakrishnan and H Raja saying that the actor is welcome to join the BJP.

On Wednesday, Rajini met the media. “What I want to say I have already conveyed two days ago. I have nothing more to say for the present,” he told reporters when asked if he has decided to join politics.

Asked about Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan inviting him to join the BJP, he said: “No comments. Please ask me about my meeting with fans. They are happy. I am more happy.”

Rajini may not be ready to comment on his political entry. But his fans, well-wishers and a section of actors are eagerly waiting for it.

Rajini Kandan, a fan from Kundrathur says, “thalaivar should enter politics. Only he can present a bright future to Tamil Nadu, which is spoiled by corruption and division. He only can do good. It is our long time wish and we hope he will fulfil it this time.”

Actors like Vivekh and Madhavan have said Rajini should enter politics. A political analyst says, “Had he entered politics in 1996, he would have easily become the chief minister. Though things are not that easy now, Rajini can make a huge impact now too if he steps into politics, as there is a big void in TN political arena.”

We end this article with a few lines from director Cheran, which gives some apt suggestions to the superstar. “Greetings Rajinikanth sir, they will surely elect you as CM. The political situation will make it happen but the honesty level of people has also been reduced so you have to be careful,” the ‘Desiya Geetham’ and ‘Vetrikodi Kattu’ maker said.

“Will the corrupted, bribed, selfish and dishonest politics suit you? You can’t lie! You have to oppose Karnataka, support Hindi agitation, should give freebies and shouldn’t close wine shops, many challenges ahead,” he added.

“If you want to achieve your dream, talk to be people, be with them and discuss their issues,” he concluded.
