Kamal Haasan’s comments at a meeting organised by the South Indian Film Chamber in Chennai last week, that he would be “forced to quit cinema” if the GST rate for the entertainment industry is not slashed, have apparently irked the Union government.
Speaking to a television channel, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, “We will look at each and every representation. But using the media as a propaganda to pressurise the government is not going to work. We won’t be arm-twisted.”
With these remarks of Jaitley are said to be aimed at Kamal, the actor-filmmaker took to Twitter to explain his side of the story.
“Not pressurising. It’s a plea & SOS from regional cinema to our FM. We fear it will collapse. We request the council to do all to save it,” Kamal tweeted.
