Introducing Elisabeth Malini Uthamaseelan, Tamil-Canadian Singer

Tamil-Canadian singer Elisabeth Malini Uthamaseelan was born in St. Cloud, France. She later moved to Toronto and graduated from York University (Glendon Campus) in 2004 with Bachelor of Commerce in French.

Elisabeth started training in carnatic music at the age of 7 in London, England. She started light music in 1991 and began her music career with the band Super Leads. In the following years, she continued her musical journey with MT Music band for 17 years.

Elisabeth has performed before audiences of up to 10,000 in live concerts across Canada, Europe and the United States. With 25 years in the music industry, she has sang over 150 songs from various albums with music directors in Toronto and across the globe.

In 2006, Elisabeth released Nilzhalgal, a collection of songs. She recently released her album Imaigal, singing with many legends while donating the proceeds to Arulaham. She also participated in Super Singer 3 as an international contestant which brought many memories and amazing experiences. She also sang in several films including Saattai, Nedunchalai and Pongadi Nenngalum Ungada Kaathallum. She has won several awards and sang with many playback legends.

Elisabeth’s road to stardom had both good and bumpy paths. However, they were both a challenge and an experience. As a mother, she didn’t think it would be possible to release an album with Toronto’s support. Connecting with the right people helped a lot, and she attended motivational events such as Ten Women that made her realize what was possible with all the experience she had.

While Elisabeth also has a professional career in Toronto, music is her passion and she intends to take it to another level while juggling a family! Elisabeth is now preparing to release music videos to ImaigaI, the album she recently released. Elisabeth is also glad to see how social media has promoted young up and coming singers, as when she was coming up only shows could showcase talent.

Elisabeth is currently finishing her Masters in Music at Annamalai University. She is part of many organization in both the Tamil and non-Tamil communities, and enjoys attending events like like Ten Women Entrepreneurs and Tamil Women Rising organizations for motivation to do even more for community.

Elisabeth’s journey as a musician continues. She thanks everyone who made it possible for her, the musicians and lyricists in Canada and across the world for the amazing experiences, and to everyone who enjoys listening to her singing. Elisabeth is preparing for her next album with a composition of songs in 7 languages to be released later this year.
