Director Pawan Kumar brings his Kannada hit U Turn to the Tamil scene with the film which carries the same name with a different star cast. Packed with solid characters, interesting situations and a good twist, it comes off as a very interesting thriller that has the ability to engage you for the entire runtime.

There’s lots to like in Pawan Kumar’s writing and the way in which he charts out an intriguing screenplay out of a very thin storyline. The film might feel slow at places, but that’s his style of getting the audience ready for the surprises he will be throwing in later. Wait, and you will be rewarded. The character also differentiates smartly between the struggling and the confident characters in his films, making them vulnerable to the situation but still not unveiling the full picture.

Samantha brings forward one of her best performances ever, with loads of room to emote and show her worth. It’s a benchmark for the acts she has done so far in her career, and will not just be remembered for the haircut and the costumes she sports. Aadhi is the next good performer in line, fitting into the role of the cop aptly and pulling it off with a style of his own. Actors like Rahul Ravindran and Bhumika too get their own parts to play, and do it well.

U Turn is also technically aided by just the right amount of finesse it needs. A special to the trippy title sequence – deserves praise.

Go ahead and see U Turn if you’re a fan of solid thrillers. The twist may not go down well with everybody, but the film has enough to keep you guessing.
