After the splendid success of Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaran, comic capers have stuck onto Vishnu Vishal. In came Kathanayagan, and we now have the third film in the series with Silukuvarpatti Singam. With a bevy of comedians, the film is a jolly time-pass entertainer that is safe enough for the family audiences.

Director Chella kicks off the events from an incident involving a half-boil and then hands over shares of the comic elements to Yogi Babu, Anand Raj, Karunakaran and others. The film never takes itself too seriously and only concentrates on making jokes on anything and everything in its way. Though Chella maintains the storyline at a wafer-thin level, the advantage here is that the film keeps flowing and does not bore or tire you out fully at any point.

Vishnu Vishal is definitely more confident in this venture, more than the recent comic capers that he has been a part of. Instead of just piggybacking on the comedians, the actor actually has a space of his own here and does well in comic timing and riposte deliveries. Out of all the comedians, Yogi Babu is the show stealer and gets the best lines from the book and brings the roof down mouthing them. Oviya’s cameo is a crowd-pleasing addition to the film, with one song sequence and two scenes for her.

The film’s technical value provides just what is required. Leon James’ music is good enough, with Dio Rio Diya and Mayakkadha being good numbers.

Overall, Silukuvarpatti Singam may not be a laugh-a-minute ride but definitely has a fine share of laugh-out-loud moments.

Verdict: A no-holds-barred, freewheeling entertainer.
