Ever since Dhanush made an announcement about Asuran, the project has been a bag of surprises. The first look of the film was released last year in December. Eventually, we were told Manju Warrier will play the female lead and GV Prakash will compose the music. Now, we hear director Balaji Sakthivel (of Kaadhal and Vazhakku Enn 18/9 fame) and Ken Karunas are also a part of this Vetrimaaran-directorial. Going by the buzz, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Dhanush plays a dual role in Asuran.

Sources say Balaji Sakthivel, who is currently working on Yaar Ivargal (touted to be a socio-political thriller), may play the antagonist in the film. Ken, who was last seen in Azhagu Kutti Chellam, is the son of well-known actor-politician Karunas. One may recall how the combination scenes of Karunas and Dhanush worked well in Thiruda Thirudi, Thiruvilayadal Aarambam, Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Devathaiyai Kanden and Uthama Puthiran.

Produced by S Thanu under V Banner Creations, Asuran will have cinematography by Velraj and editing by Vivek Harshan. The film is based on the novel Vekkai written by Poomani.

Sources say Dhanush is expected to finish Asuran by March and will commence work on his next with Kodi-fame Durai Senthil Kumar. Besides these, Dhanush has a fantasy comedy with Mundasupatti director Ramkumar and Vada Chennai 2 Anbuvin Ezhuchi in the pipeline. Also, he is awaiting the release of his second directorial, bankrolled by Thenandal Studio Limited.
