Sathru is a decent cat-and-mouse thriller that only works due to its constantly progressive narrative. Despite a few dips here and there, something keeps happening in the film that’s a positive.

Kathir plays a cop who goes behind a gang of kidnappers who demand a ransom. The film moves on to a series of events that take place in quick succession. The chronicles balance themselves out, with some scenes being good and some bad. While the first half is quite interesting on the whole, the second is needlessly dragged with lots of logical issues working against the film.

Kathir as a cop is adequate. While the needless heroism could have been toned down, traces of the great actor in him pop out during the emotional sequences. Actor Laguparan who plays the baddie makes great use of the opportunity and brings out a powerful performance with very good diction. He’s somebody to watch out for. The rest of the star cast do well in their little roles, with veteran Ponvannan taking a memorable scene to himself.

The editing should have been neater, as many scenes feel abruptly cut, affecting the flow of the film. The BGM by Surya Prasadh is mostly good, though some jarring bits could have been cut off.

Overall, Sathru is an okayish thriller that you can watch if you have nothing else to do. The racy presentation helps here.
