A fairly engaging, action-packed ride.

Summary : Suttu Pudikka Utharavu is an action thriller that will not tire you out. Ramprakash Rayappa picks a thin line and makes a decent, watchable film out of it. It may seem a little gawky at places, but this is a film that you can’t write off.

Director Ramprakash Rayappa somewhat returns to form with his latest film in Suttu Pudikka Utharavu, an action thriller that makes use of two hours to give you a fine ride that is worth your time. The film is flawed in more than one way, but that doesn’t stop it from being a good popcorn watch on the whole.

Suttu Pidikka Utharavu is blazing from the word go, as the proceedings begin at a heist scene featuring Vikranth, Suseenthiran and Mysskin. From there, it continues to be an on-the-run film that has a few commercial elements squeezed in as well. Without adopting a simple, straightforward narrative, Ramprakash makes sure that he has a worthy surprise to throw into the final act, which is indeed the best part of the film.

Roles like these are becoming a cakewalk for Mysskin, as he performs it with great ease and is one of the biggest pillars of the film. Most of his portions are fit into the walls of a hospital, but his character is an important tool in taking the plot forward. Vikranth and Suseenthiran (in his debut as an actor) provide adequate performances, being honest to their roles. On the other hand, the film is bobbed down by two comic tracks which bring down the highly likable flow that it acquires at first.

Even though he doesn’t have any songs to compose, music director Jakes Bejoy makes use of the extra time in hand to bring out some riveting themes that sound superb to watch with the film. The cinematography is also well done, especially in capturing the streets of Coimbatore. Kudos to the live action choreography, which is indeed a big plus to the film. There are a lot of fight scenes that will excite the general audiences; and they have all been performed realistically, which in turn does increase the believability factor.

On the whole, Suttu Pudikka Utharavu is an action thriller that will not tire you out. Ramprakash Rayappa picks a thin line and makes a decent, watchable film out of it. It may seem a little gawky at places, but this is a film that you can’t write off.
