Bollywood actor Disha Patani will reportedly play lead role in Sangamithra

Looks like Bollywood actor Disha Patani has hit a jackpot of sorts in her film career. The latest buzz in the industry is, she has been roped in to play the titular role in mega-budget film Sangamithra, which is director Sundar C’s most ambitious project.

If it is true, Disha will replace actor Shruti Haasan, who was the filmmakers’ first choice to play the coveted role. However, after promoting the film at Cannes earlier this year, Shruti walked out of the project citing differences with the filmmaker. “It’s just that the way I work is I would like to have a firm and clear idea of a script and the character. If that doesn’t happen, I just move on to the next project. But I wish the team all the very best,” she had told when asked why she had opted out of the film.

After Shruti’s exit, some of the big names in the South Indian industry including, Nayanthara and Hansika Motwani were reportedly considered for the role of Sangamithra. According to latest reports, the filmmakers finalised Disha a few weeks ago and an official announced on the same is also expected to be made soon.

“Movies r not abt shooting rightly said by #Spielberg, 70% of film is on d papers n rest is filming it #Sangamithra wl roll in dec,” tweeted actor-politician Khushbu Sundar, who is also the wife of Sundar C.

She also announced her director husband’s next immediate project is the sequel to 2012 hit comedy film Kalakalappu. The film will start rolling from October and will be wrapped up soon, following which Sundar will focus on his two-part epic series.

Kalakalappu 2 will have Jiiva, Jai, Catherine Tresa and Nikki Galrani in the lead roles.

Sangamithra story is set in the 8th century AD, and it will follow Sangamithra’s struggles and her inspiring journey to save her kingdom. Actors Jayam Ravi and Aarya will play the leading men in the film, which will be made on a budget of Rs 250 crore. The film will be made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi under Sri Thenandal Films banner.
